JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Forty years ago Dave Wottle shocked the world by winning gold for Team USA in the 800-meter run at the 1972 Olympic games in Munich.
Wottle was just a 22-year-old student at Bowling Green State in Ohio when he won gold.
Now, he serves as the Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management at Millsaps College in Jackson.
Wottle says he is reminded of that golden moment daily.
"There's usually something that happens during the day, everyday, that will remind me of that Olympic moment. I mean, it's really that memorable to an Olympic athlete. It really changes your life to really be able to experience something like that, especially to be able to win," Wottle stated.
Wottle's story is nothing short of an underdog tale.
