The Rankin County School Board has voted to approve a settlement with Pearl over a plan to extend that district's boundaries to the city limits.
The two school districts had gone to court over Pearl's plan to annex part of Rankin County schools, extending the city district lines to the city limits.
About ten concerned parents attended the meeting.
Board president Cecil McCrory assured them the resolution protects all who are in affected areas.
"We tried to give them a copy of the resolution to read the consent order, to ease their fears, that their rights have been protected; their tax money has been protected and they can choose to send their children anywhere they want to," said McCrory.
The resolution also stipulates that Pearl would agree not to litigate the issue again for at least 12 years.
The U.S. Justice Department would have to approve any settlement reached between the two districts.
