PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Pearl High School football coach John Perry can't seem to hold in his excitement for the upcoming season.

He feels he has a reason to be excited.

The Pirates have plenty of athletes returning from a team that finished 8-4 in 2011.

One guy that has coach Perry all smiles is defensive back Erin Jones.

The four-year starter plays all over the field and is getting looks from plenty of big time colleges.

"Man they are really excited. We have a lot of new guys that have to step into positions. We have a lot of speed. Some pretty good kids that are going to have to learn to play fast. Sophomores that we are going to throw in to the fire that are very athletic. They are very excited and they are gung-ho and ready to go," said Perry.

"I'm carrying high expectations. I just want us to be a fast running team. Do everything right. Just listen to our coaches and that's what we plan on doing to be a great team this season," said Erin Jones.

Pearl faces Vicksburg to open the 2012 season.
