JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hinds County Supervisors hope to figure out what needs to happen next at the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond.

During Monday's meeting, Supervisor Peggy Calhoun is expected to bring up hiring and approving a contractor to do a needs assessment of the jail. Calhoun also wants to discuss and approve hiring someone to immediately start emergency repairs on pod c.

Supervisor Kenneth Stokes has always been adamant about closing the Hinds County jail in Raymond and building a new facility. Stokes is expected to discuss his ideas on building a new jail. He also wants to talk about visiting Chicago's Cook County Detention Center to get ideas on how that jail operates.

One week ago, an inmate uprising inside of the jail left one pod completely destroyed. Last Monday hundreds of law enforcement agencies swarmed the jail after inmate Kendall Johnson got out of an isolated pod and started up a major disturbance inside of Pod C. Several days later, dozens of weapons and cell phones were found inside of the detention center.
