JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Jackson residents are being warned to avoid contact with the water in Hanging Moss Creek.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality issued a temporary advisory Monday after a break in a 10-inch wastewater line at Sheffield Drive and Ridgewood Road.
The advisory extends from the Hanging Moss Creek Bridge at Interstate 55 to where it merges with the Pearl River.
The City of Jackson is pumping the water from the creek into an interceptor line to prevent sewage from going into the river.
MDEQ is monitoring bacteria levels and water quality in the creek.
Officials recommend that people avoid swimming or wading in the creek and avoid eating fish from these waters until further notice.
