This Taking Back Our Neighborhood report takes us to Belhaven in Jackson.
That's where a water leak and clogged drain on the corner St. Mary and Ivy is creating a potential health hazard for residents.
In an email, a concerned viewer reached out to 3 On Your Side for help fixing the liquid headache.
Even on the driest days, water collects on the corner of St. Mary and Ivy Streets in Belhaven. It's coming from these broken city meters and flowing to this clogged storm drain. Larry Patterson says he has called the City of Jackson many times.
Patterson said, "And the lady there has been very helpful and very gracious, but she says the truck that the city uses to clean these out with is in the shop and getting repaired, so they can't come out and fix it."
But Patterson says that's been a long time.
Patterson continued, "It's been so long that tadpoles have grown into the size that kids are coming by and collecting the tadpoles for school projects."
And then said Patterson, there are mosquitoes that continue to multiply despite city pesticide trucks that come and spray the neighborhood.
He said, "If the water here from this water line wasn't constantly leaking, it wouldn't be much of a problem."
So, until the city can address the problem, Patterson and other neighbors will have to deal with a body of water they didn't bargain for.
"I want to thank y'all for your help and your support trying to get our neighborhood back safe and cleaned," said Patterson.
I contacted Chris Mims with the City of Jackson for answers. He said he would look into it and get back with me.
