Mississippians will soon have a new way to beat the traffic.
MDOT is in the process of rolling out a new travel information hotline. The state's public service commission voted Tuesday to assign the 511 phone number to MDOT. This means the agency can now have their contractor begin building the system.
British-based firm Atkins has a $1.13 million to build the phone system and run it for 30 months.
Mississippi will be the 39th state to operate the 511 system once it has been completed.
It could be up and running as early as next year.
