Man saves neighbor from fire

Posted: Updated:
RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An alert neighbor saved a Rankin County man just before his home went up in flames Sunday afternoon.

A viewer showed us cell phone video of the blaze at 333 Millcreek Drive.

Witnesses tell us the homeowner, Johnnie Johnson, wasn't aware of the fire before a concerned neighbor knocked on his door about 3 p.m.

Johnson and a pet were able to escape.

Reservoir firefighters and volunteers helped extinguished the flames. The home sustained major damage to the roof, along with smoke and water damage.

Some witnesses believe the fire started in the kitchen area, but firefighters have not confirmed how it started.
