Bobby Cleveland, 58, was born and raised in Hattiesburg. He covered outdoor sports in Mississippi for 30 years for The Clarion-Ledger, earning numerous awards for his folksy writing and his ability to put his readers in the boat or deer stand right beside him.
He was born into a family of journalists. His dad Robert "Ace" Cleveland was a sports reporter before becoming the Sports Information Director at the University of Southern Mississippi and his older brother Rick was a sports columnist for The Clarion-Ledger before recently taken over as executive director of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, of which Ace Cleveland is a member.
Bobby chose a different path, heading outdoors to the fields and streams to hunt and fish and report on the rich traditions, colorful characters and many issues involved.
If it swims in Mississippi, Bobby's probably caught it. He's hunted everything from armadillos to deer, rabbits to alligators. And if he hooked it or shot it, he's cooked it and eaten it, at least once.
Bobby is married to Pam, has a son Kenner Purvis, daughter-in-law Lane Purvis and grandson Cooper Purvis.
