Murder suspect extradited to Attala County

ATTALA COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

After 5 years, the suspect accused of killing a Kosciusko businessman has been extradited to Mississippi from Tennessee.

52-year-old Theotus Barnett was brought to Attala County Monday afternoon.

Barnett was charged in February 2011 in connection with the murder of Daniel Tavares, III.

In 2007, Tavares was robbed, then beaten to death and suffocated at his used car dealership in Kosciusko.

According to investigators, Barnett was arrested in a separate case in Memphis, Tennessee for aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery in 2011.

Evidence collected then linked him to the Tavares cases.

His arraignment is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.
