BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
An 18-wheeler fire on Interstate 20 west at the Crossgates Boulevard exit has been a headache for morning commuters traveling through Brandon Tuesday morning. At the peak of rush hour traffic Skycopter 3 reporter Mary Wieden got a bird's eye view of the interstate and she said the back-up appeared to be four-to-five miles.
The big rig caught fire shortly after 4 AM, according to Brandon Police dispatchers. No injuries have been reported and the Mississippi Department of Transportation published an advisory at 8:30 stating that the wreck could take two more hours to clear.
As a result of the accident the exit ramp to Highway 18/Crossgates Blvd, exit 54, from I-20 westbound is temporarily closed, so crews can clear the scene.
The semi-truck was the only vehicle involved and what caused the fire to start is under investigation.
