I-20 reopens after 18-wheeler accident near Forest

Posted: Updated:

Part of Interstate 20 had to be shut down Tuesday afternoon after an 18-wheeler was involved in an accident.

The accident happened just before noon between the Forest and Morton exits, in an area where an ongoing construction project already had traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.

The truck ran off the road as it was headed west toward Jackson, and it landed on its side.

Another truck was brought so the cargo could be transferred.

Westbound traffic was diverted from the interstate at the Forest exit while crews worked to clear the scene.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation says the westbound lane was back open by about 4:15 Tuesday afternoon. The eastbound lane was not affected.
