JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
More incidents are under investigation, including a shooting and fire at the Pine Ridge Gardens, formerly the Rebelwood Apartments.
Firefighters responded to the complex just before 10 p.m. Monday evening, for a fire in the office. The blaze was contained to the building, and repair crews were on the scene Tuesday morning.
Jackson Fire Department spokesman R. D. Simpson would only say the incident is under investigation.
Police were called back to the scene for a shooting at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday morning. A male was found with a gunshot wound to the chest outside building A. The unnamed shooting victim was hospitalized, and remains in stable condition.
The unrest at the apartments began Sunday evening, when 26 Year Old Tony Taylor was shot and killed by a security guard. Eyewitnesses say Taylor was in an argument with a tenant when he was followed by security guard Jose Benavides.
They say Taylor was not armed, and was surrendering, when Benavides fired the fatal shot.
Benavides was charged with murder, but only received a bond of $50,000.00.
Heavy police presence was visible Tuesday morning, with officers stopping vehicles in the complex, and making arrests.
Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance says, "It appears to be a volatile situation at this point. We've increased our presence on that property and hopefully that will deter any further violence."
