JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Low income families now have a chance to qualify for 47 select homes in the Jackson area with an affordable mortgage. The Neighborhood Stabilization Program selected foreclosed homes and then spruced them up.
We went into a home located on a huge lot at the corner of Cedars of Lebanon Drive in north Jackson. The door is open for the right family.
Nita Martin is a counselor with Institute for Disability Studies with the University of Southern Mississippi. She is ready to help make dreams come true in five targeted Jackson neighborhoods.
"We have a cap on how much a person or family can earn and that depends on the number of people living in the household" said Martin.
A family of 5 people can make up to $76,200 yearly. A single income limit is $49,400.
Like the other homes available thru the IDS neighborhood program, this three bedroom 2 bath home outfitted with all new appliances passed inspection and goes for appraised market value in the $90,000.00 range.
The houses are located in one of the following five Jackson neighborhoods:
- Alta Woods 39204,
- Farish Street Historic District 39203,
- North Jackson 39206, 39213, 39216,
- Midtown 39201, or
- West Jackson 39209.
Only first time home buyers are eligible. You have to be credit worthy and potential home buyers must meet household income requirements, which were just raised and will accommodate more people.
