JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The Salvation Army took us inside its pantry Thursday. Many shelves have no canned goods. Others are minimally stocked with only green beans, carrots and some baby food. There is an urgent need for non-perishable donations.
Spokeswoman Becky Russell said the recent increase in grocery prices and gas prices have contributed to the problems of those who seek help.
"We have people coming daily," Russell said. "We've had an increase in need. We've seen many more people come forth out of different socio-economic realms needing help because of the difficulty in our economic times."
Russell says more and more people are having to turn to the Salvation Army to help feed their families.
Tyson Foods donated a freezer full of frozen chicken, but canned goods including canned vegetables and meats, peanut butter and pastas are needed to round out meals.
If you can help, be sure and drop off the items at the administration building of the Salvation Army located at 110 Presto Lane in Jackson. Call 601-982-4881 for more information.
