RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A lightning strike in Ridgeland set fire to a house in the Gateway North sub-division.
Ridgeland fire crews arrived Friday morning to the one-hundred block of Clearwater Cove shortly after 6:30.
Sergeant Mark Culbertson told WLBT that based on a preliminary investigation it looked like lightening may have hit the roof of the house. Culbertson said when crews arrived on the scene there was lots of smoke and not too much fire.
Thankfully no one was home. A neighbor who was outside said he saw the lightning strike and called 9-1-1 right away.
"It was booming out here we just came out drinking coffee watching the storm and we saw it hit the corner of the house, he thought it hit the jeep I mean it was that close," said Ridgeland resident Sean Ireland.
Sergeant Culbertson said most of the damage is in the attic.
