Church holds BBQ competition fund raiser

Posted: Updated:

A Vicksburg church helps raise money for youth programs by testing barbecuing skills.

Living Water Christian Fellowship Church held a barbeque grill masters challenge Saturday.

Competitors from the church and community had to produce the best rib eye steak, baby back ribs or Boston Butt pork roast.

The donated meats were judged by local celebrities and cooking experts.

Children enjoyed bounce houses and games while cooks worked on their best creations.

More than 70 plates were ordered in advance for the fund raiser.

The event raises money for the Living Water Youth Department's Outreach Mentoring Program for fatherless children.

"We're doing a barbeque grill masters challenge. We had a lot of the men in our men's group that were bragging about how good they could cook. So we told them well put your money where your mouth is and come out," said Living Water Christian Fellowship Pastor Doyle Moulder.

This is the first year the event has been held.
