Mississippi River traffic rolls despite low water levels

Posted: Updated:
NATCHEZ, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Traffic on the Mississippi River continues to flow, despite lower water levels this summer.

The river is a little higher in Natchez compared to other locations along the Mississippi. The National Weather Service says the water level there is about eight feet below normal for this time of year.

Vicksburg is about 12 feet below normal.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says dredging at ports is going on up river but will move to the Greenville area this week.

Locally, there are no reports of any port closings along the river because of low water levels.
