Will Isaac impact our weather?

Posted: Updated:

Drier weather for our region for today and Monday. A little warmer, too. Highs today and Monday will be in the 90s. Beyond Monday, Isaac and where it goes will be in play.

All eyes are on Isaac, which is still a tropical storm as of mid-morning. Still big questions on where Isaac will make landfall on the Gulf coast, but somewhere along the Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama coastlines is looking more likely now than a couple of days ago.

Depending on where Isaac makes landfall, our weather may be warm and dry, or it could be windy and wet. Keep in mind that tropical systems take up a lot of real estate, so even if the center does not move over Mississippi, impacts can be felt hundreds of miles away. Also, remember areas to the right of the storm track are on the stronger side of the system, where the heaviest rains, strongest winds and highest tornado risk will be.

I believe today is still a "safe" day to watch the new data come in and hopefully tonight I will be able to narrow the cone of uncertainty some. If a significant impact on our local weather is still possible on Monday, folks will need to start getting ready since we'll be less then 48 hours away from landfall.
