JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Central Mississippi is bracing for a possible hit from Isaac.
Various Hinds County agencies, as well as municipalities and towns gathered to find out what's needed to keep services running smoothly.
It was standing room only at a briefing at Hinds E.O.C. where representatives from all nine cities and towns in the county met Monday afternoon.
Officials from the public school systems, colleges, utility companies as well as the American Red Cross and other agencies also attended.
They gave updates on what they planned and what was needed to endure the storm system.
"From what it sounds like we're in pretty good shape besides a few generators for some water wells. Other than that everything seems to be ok," said Hinds E.O.C. Interim Director Joey Perkins.
"We want to encourage citizens to go on line at jacksonms.gov and sign up for code red. They can get code red weather warnings. They can be called, texted or emailed throughout the bad weather, and they can stay ahead of it," said Jackson City Spokesman Chris Mims.
The City of Jackson is also asking residents to remove any litter and limbs from their curb lines to prevent clogged drains in the event of flash flooding.
Millsaps College is also ready and will be offering shelter to students and staff from the University of New Orleans.
The Louisiana school closed the campus Monday afternoon.
"We will be busing up approximately 150 to 200 students and support staff to the Millsaps College campus where we'll house them and give them shelter and food for the next few days until we're through the emergency," said Millsaps College Director of Campus Life John Conway.
The two learning institutions developed a relationship seven years ago.
"It was the result of Katrina. Some of the schools found that they needed relationships with those of us that were inland, so we're again able to lend a hand," added Conway.
The Code Red System is for Jackson residents only.
The Red Cross has opened shelters in Hinds, Forrest, George, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson and Marion counties.
