Hurricane Isaac makes landfall

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hurricane Isaac made landfall over Pilottown, Louisiana around 7:15 Tuesday evening. Isaac is expected to move slowly to the northwest and eventually move to Grand Isle, Louisiana and continue on a similar track. 

While the exact track of Isaac's movement on land is still uncertain, many people continue to ask, "What can I expect?" Please note this is based on the current projected track of Isaac through the WLBT viewing area. All of these areas could also see quick spin up tornadoes Wednesday and Thursday.

Downed trees/power lines, power outages, and 3 to 7 inches of rain can be expected in the following counties:  Copiah , Covington, Hinds, Jefferson Davis, Lawrence, Leake, Madison, Rankin, Scott, and Smith counties.

Widespread trees/power lines, trees on homes, power outages, and 8 to 14 inches of rain can be expected in the following counties:  Adams , Amite, Claiborne, Copiah, Franklin, Lawrence, Lincoln, Jefferson, Pike, Walthall, Warren, and Wilkinson counties.

Here are the counties that are expected to be impacted by high winds in the WLBT viewing area:

30-40 mph sustained winds with gusts of 40-50 mph:  Claiborne, Copiah, Covington, Hinds, Issaquena, Madison, Rankin, Scott, Sharkey, Simpson, Smith, Warren, and Yazoo counties.

45 mph sustained winds with gusts of 50-60 mph:  Claiborne, Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, Wilkinson, Copiah, Lincoln, Amite, Pike, Walthall, Lawrence, and Jefferson Davis counties.

All counties along and north of I-20 can expect to see gusty winds of 25-30 mph.

Please have your NOAA weather radio on as power outages are expected and you'll need to be able to receive severe weather information throughout the duration of this storm.
