MCCOMB, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Work continued on the Tangipahoa Lake Dam Saturday in Pike County.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality says the water level continues to drop at the lake, relieving pressure on the dam.
MDEQ says the plan is to make a cut into the hill beside the dam. Water will be released into a large drainage ditch that is being built.
Once the water level is six feet below normal work will begin on the slide that has put the dam in danger of failing.
Twenty pumps are expected to be in use by Sunday, to help drain the lake.
It could be five to ten days before a controlled breech of the dam is attempted.
