Stokes wants report on jail riot

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hinds County Supervisor Kenneth Stokes wants a written report on how the Hinds County Detention Center riot began.

Stokes believes Sheriff Tyrone Lewis, County Administrator Carmen Davis, or an outside agency should give the board of supervisors a report on the incident and how to prevent it from happening again.

He believes county leaders and the public have a right to know.

Stokes also says there could be an issue with how or if the damaged portion of the jail, Pod C, will be repaired.

"We got a gentleman who is saying he had a contract to do the roofing at the whole jail. Now they're saying that his contract has been voided and that they're gonna take the money from the pod, from Pod C, to do the whole jail. Now, I know that's not gonna happen. I know that's not legally what's supposed to happen. So, again we got to put out these fires," Stokes told reporters Sunday afternoon.

Stokes plans to talk about both issues at the board's Tuesday meeting.
