HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A Kiln man is charged with felony child abuse after allegedly breaking his 2-month-old son's femur at around 2 p.m. Sunday, according to the Hancock County Sheriff's Department.
Hancock County Sheriff's Investigator Glen Grannon said, Earnest Fontenot, 18, of the Kiln was arrested around 6 a.m. Monday.
Grannon said, deputies were alerted of the incident after Hancock County Medical Center reported the baby's broken femur to them.
Fontenot reportedly told investigators the incident stemmed from an argument with his girlfriend, who is also the mother of the baby. Fontenot allegedly applied way too much force and shoved and twisted his son's leg.
"He went beyond the range of motion and broke the baby's femur," Grannon said.
Grannon said, a friend, who came to pick up the couple, suggested they bring the baby to the hospital after noticing the baby crying.
The baby was transported from Hancock County Medical Center to the Children's Hospital in New Orleans for treatment.
Fontenot is being held at the Hancock County Jail. His bond has not been set yet.
