Genome project advancing

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Roughly five hundred scientists have collaborated to give us a guidebook on the human genome -- which could change the way diseases are treated.

Over thirty studies published today reveal eighty percent of our genes have some sort of function -- a sharp contrast to the previous belief that most of our D-N-A is junk.

This study found the rest of our genes create a series of on and off switches that tell disease-related genes what to do and when.

The discovery gives researchers new targets for drug treatments and diagnostic tests. @@
