RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Ridgeland Police have a man in custody for a Friday morning armed robbery.
Fifty-one-year-old Rocky Cavett of Jackson is charged in the crime. He's currently being held without bond.
Police arrested Cavett as he emerged from a wooded area. They say around 11 a.m. Friday, Cavett approached a cashier in the parking lot of the Shell gas station on Old Canton Road and County Line Road.
The cashier was holding a cash deposit. We're told he displayed a gun and demanded the cash, then fled on foot heading south along Old Canton Road. He was arrested after a brief foot chase with police.
"During about a 10 minute manhunt here in the general area the suspect was spotted coming out of the woods. A brief chase ensued through the creek adjacent to Pine Knoll Drive. He was taken into custody without incident," said Ridgeland Police Lieutenant John Neal.
Jackson Police, Madison Police, the Madison County Sheriff's Department, and a Madison County Constable assisted. The cash was recovered, but authorities have not yet recovered the weapon.
No one was hurt.
