PELAHATCHIE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Chief Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Bill Waller joined radio personality Scott Steele and several local pastors at The Muscadine Stomp Saturday at Pelahatchie's Muscadine Jubilee.
The contestants stomped one minute and the product of their labor was measured to see who emerged champion stomper.
Scott Walters, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, claimed victory and walked away with bragging rights and prizes.
"Never have tried it. Didn't know what to expect. Someone gave me a tip to not go crazy and splash everywhere. That helped," he says. "(The jubilee) is great for the community. Our mayor is awesome. He does a lot for the community. This is a good way to pull everyone together."
Justice Waller says stomping muscadines is not something he's ever tried before.
"But now that I've tried it I think I've got a plan that might result in greater success next year," he says. "A lot of food, entertainment, good folks, great weather, great time to be out enjoying Mississippi."
The Muscadine Jubilee has been a Pelahatchie tradition for 25 years.
