JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The Mississippi Trade Mart went to the dogs Saturday during the seventh annual Paws4Fun event.
Dog lovers learned how to become more responsible owners during daylong activities.
Veterinarians were on hand to give advice, along with breed specific clubs.
The pups also took their paws to the turf on an agility course.
Pets and their owners showed off their obedience and rally skills.
Those attending were asked to bring dog food and other items to be donated to local rescue groups.
Organizers said the daylong event it is a great way for animals to learn to socialize.
"We've had animals playing and some people think they're fighting. Well they're not really fighting. They're playing. So that's one thing that people need to do. Also it gives them an opportunity to get out on a leash if they've not ever had them out on a leash, also get some general information on the care of their animal, the kind of temperament also of the animal," said CARA board member Jack Welch.
The American Kennel Club has held this event for seven years.
