JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A little more than two weeks ago Nancy Crouch was shopping at Dollar General on McDowell Road, in Jackson, when she became a crime victim.
"All of the sudden this girl ran into me and it startled me, and this guy was right in my face, and I saw his hand move toward my purse. I grabbed my purse because my hand was already on it. I got my purse but he got my billfold," Crouch told us.
The 72-year-old claims she and Jackson police officers watched surveillance video of the two thieves leaving with more than $100 in money, checks and makeup.
"I saw the tape and the guy, we saw it in his hand when he was leaving," Crouch said.
Crouch says officers are having to wait to identify the two people wanted in connection with the crime.
The reason? Dollar General has yet to release any footage.
Jackson police confirm they are waiting on a district manager to release video of the incident.
After waiting more than two weeks, Crouch says she has waited long enough and wants answers.
"The police department can't do it without the corporate office to release it," Crouch said.
JPD says retail stores generally cooperate with investigators in releasing surveillance video.
In an email to a Dollar General spokeswoman, WLBT asked why it has taken two weeks to release surveillance video of the incident to police and is it the company's policy for district managers to release the video?
Dollar General Communications Coordinator Rebecca Sanders responded with this emailed response: "An investigation is underway into this matter by the police, and we are cooperating with the authorities who are leading the investigation. We are referring all inquiries to the police department."
