JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Hinds County Circuit Judge Jeff Weill likes to hunt alligators and over the weekend he bagged a big one.
Weill says they got an 11-foot, 1-inch gator Friday night just south of Greenville, after an epic 7-hour battle.
"We
were on a long dark, deep, spooky bayou in the middle of the Delta, just off
Hwy 1 20 miles south of Greenville" said Weill. "My wife is grateful that my boys weren't with me, just
Matt Brooks, a Greenville attorney, and I were involved."
They used light tackle in a small john-boat.
"The hunt had everything; slashing thunderstorm, sinking boat,
nonstop action including Matt getting whomped by the gator's tail" Weill added.
The Mississippi alligator season runs through Sunday.
