(RNN) - Seeking to kill off any job productivity left behind after last month's interactive Olympic doodles, Google has rolled out possibly its most awesomely time consuming feature yet - Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
The game is based on the "six degrees of separation" theory that states that two people anywhere in the world can be linked by no more than six acquaintances.
In this case, Kevin Bacon and a celebrity of choice.
Zooey Deschanel? Bacon Number of two. (Deschanel appeared in Failure to Launch with Sarah Jessica Parker, who appeared in Footloose with, you guessed it, Kevin Bacon.)
Sandra Bullock strikes Bacon Number gold. The pair starred in Loverboy together, giving her a BN of one.
Sesame Street's Elmo, a favorite of the preschool crowd, even has a Bacon Number. (If you're curious, it's two.)
Sometimes even non-actors have a connection.
Teddy Roosevelt? A Bacon Number of three. Sarah Palin? Also a three.
Union Army Officer William Rufus Shafter, who died in 1906, might be the "Six degree" rule buster. With a BN of 7, Shafter is traced through Presidents William McKinley and Teddy Roosevelt all the way through the 20th century to Patty McCormack, who starred in Footloose with - stop me if you've heard this - Kevin Bacon.
Some, however, bust the Bacon generating abilities of Google.
Mitt Romney, CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, Big Bird (arguably more famous long term than his newly viral Sesame Street cohort), Batman and Prince William don't generate Bacon Numbers. Though strangely enough, William's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, does (two, connected to Bacon through Brit musician Phil Collins).
Wanna give it a try? Type in the search box the name of a celebrity of choice, plus the phrase "Bacon Number" (without the quotation marks) and voila!
