JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Mississippi schools and districts are now getting letter grades for their performance on standardized tests.
Only three school districts in Mississippi received an A: Clinton, Enterprise, and Pass Christian. In the metro area, the Madison County, Rankin County, and Pearl School Districts received B grades. Hinds County scored a C, and the Canton School District charted an F grade.
The 2012 numbers reflect a four-year trend of increasing numbers of top-performing schools and decreasing numbers of low-performing schools.
The Jackson Public Schools have some work ahead of them to bring up their test scores. The district received a D. Of the district's 59 schools, 11 of them received a grade of F, or low-performing. Those schools include Callaway, Lanier, and Wingfield High Schools; the former Bailey Magnet High School; Brinkley, Hardy, and Whitten Middle Schools; and Green, Johnson, Key, and Oak Forest Elementary Schools.
Conversely, five JPS schools received an A grade. They include Casey, Davis Magnet, George, McWillie, and Power APAC schools.
