JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson ministry is offering help to families who find themselves homeless after severe weather or other disasters.

Lighthouse Outreach Ministries is providing free temporary shelter for families in a transition home on Shamrock Drive in south Jackson.

An open house was held Saturday to show off the newly renovated home.

The emergency shelter will be available to families displaced by natural disasters, fire and severe weather.

To be eligible a family of up to seven must have an annual income of less than $35,000.00.

Depending upon the circumstances, they can remain in the transitional house for up to 12 months.

"We are trying to get businesses, corporations, also families and individuals that will adopt a room in this house to help furnish it so that we will be completely ready for a family that is in need," said Pastor Michael Owen with Lighthouse Outreach Ministries.

The house was donated to the ministry by Taylor Made Properties of Brandon.
