Cancer is number one killer of Hispanics

Cancer is now the number one killer among Hispanics living in the U-S.

Researchers say in 2009, cancer deaths surpassed heart disease as the leading cause of death for those of Hispanic origin.

The report finds fewer Hispanics die from breast, lung, prostate and colorectal cancers than Caucasians and African Americans. But Hispanic mortality rates are higher for cancers of the stomach, liver, cervix and gallbladder.

Hispanics are also more likely to be diagnosed at advanced stages.

This study was led by researchers at the American Cancer Society and published in "CA: A Cancer Journal For Clinicians'
