Canton man sentenced for rape of 5 year-old

CANTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Canton man is headed to prison for raping a child at the Frey's Lane Apartments in 2010.

Challis Lewis, 28, pleaded guilty to both statutory rape and sexual battery of a five year old.

The Madison County Circuit Clerk confirms Lewis was sentenced to 33 years, plus 33 years. The sentences must run concurrently.

Lewis is a convicted felon with a long criminal past.

Investigators used DNA evidence to link Lewis to the crime.
