JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The idea is to transform the area, in-and-around the Jackson Medical Mall, into a vibrant business district with an emphasis on healthcare.

Wednesday, it was time for the steering committee of the Mississippi Healthcare Corridor to see the strategic plan that has been a year in the making.

They are looking to see what resources are available for the project, which plans to infuse new businesses, hotels, hospital and medical services, as well as home healthcare and housing into the area.

Primus Wheeler, executive director of the Jackson Medical Mall Foundation said, "This is to redevelop the Woodrow Wilson corridor from I-55 to I-220 all along Woodrow Wilson. It's going to be business development, residential development. It's a whole new way of doing things."

Wheeler, who is chairman of the steering committee, expects another 3 to 5 months will be needed to finalize the plans and the project is expected to take 3 to 5 years to complete.
