RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
With a loud applause and lots of cheering, Carla Williams skipped out of the Apple Store at the Renaissance as the stores first iPhone 5 customer. Williams who was the first person to arrive at the store at 4 P.M. Thursday, braved the cold and sat in line all night for her daughter.
"It feels wonderful I can't wait to get it to Ole' Miss to my daughter," Williams told WLBT News.
Holmes Community College student Will Walker walked out as the 5th iPhone 5 customer.
"It feels real good like you guys are actually seeing me you know take the casing and everything off, this is my first time opening it up, so let's see what we got," said Walker.
The new iPhone 5 is 18 percent thinner and 20 percent lighter than the old iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5 is Apple's thinnest and lightest model.
Customers walked into the Apple Store at 8:00 A.M., but a long line formed way before dawn outside and around the store. If she didn't need a new phone so badly, Brandon resident Cindy Singleton joked about selling her third place spot in line.
"It might be tempting if I didn't really need a phone so badly," said Singleton.
JSU computer engineering student Frederick Burns said he's been looking forward to the iPhone 5 release for six months.
"It has an A5 processor so it's going to make the graphics a lot clearer it's going to be faster you can do a lot of things at the same time," said Walker.
Williams who sat in line all night for her daughter's new iPhone 5 said it was well worth the wait.
If you didn't get your hands on an iPhone 5 Friday you can also pre-order the phone through C-Spire, which will have the actual phone in stores next Friday, September 28th.
Along with the Apple Store, Verizon, Sprint and AT&T stores also debuted the iPhone 5 in stores Friday morning.
