Jackson police are shining a light on a growing problem in the capital city.
A high visibility operation continues in neighborhoods and at businesses in each police precinct.
Officers are driving down city streets with their blue lights on, making sure criminals know they are watching homes and businesses.
Basically, it's a see and be seen tactic.
More police are talking with store owners and riding through parking lots.
Specifically, JPD is targeting robberies.
"We're doing not only high visibility but clandestine operations targeting these businesses. So, if these guys or ladies that we've got out there working these businesses and locations, if they see something they may not act on it. They may call one of our marked units to come in," says Jackson Police Deputy Chief Eric Wall.
JPD didn't have specific numbers Friday evening but they claim crime has gone down in the past several weeks since the high visibility operations started.
