Newton HS student dies after shooting himself - MSNewsNow.com - Jackson, MS

The Newton High School student who shot himself inside a classroom died in a Jackson hospital Saturday.

The 12th grader was airlifted to UMC Friday after suffering from a gunshot wound. The student was said to have brought a 22 caliber handgun to school in a backpack.

The 17-year-old white male was sitting inside a classroom when he lit a cigarette and pulled out the weapon.

We're told the teacher immediately cleared students from the class and a few minutes later a gunshot was heard.

Officials say a note or notes were found at the scene of the shooting.
