An inmate has escaped from the Mississippi State Penitentiary
Michael Dowda was discovered missing while on a work detail with maintenance at the penitentiary about 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. He was last seen wearing a Mississippi Department of Corrections shirt and green and white striped pants.
Authorities believe he is driving a white 2005 Silverado truck, possibly stolen from prison grounds.
The truck has Yalobusha County plates, a disability tag and tag number 0922. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
The 48-year old white man has brown eyes, brown hair and weighs 195 pounds.
Dowda is serving a life sentence for murder from Harrison County.
Anyone with any information or sightings of Dowda should contact local law enforcement.
