JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
More than a dozen members of the Mississippi National Guard are spending their first evening at home in more than a year.
Members of the 230th Financial Management Detachment have been serving in Kosovo in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Saturday morning they returned to Jackson, greeted by family and friends.
For the 14 troops returning home Saturday , this homecoming is about family and catching up in person.
"It feels good. I mean, I was able to see them on Skype, through webcams. So, I saw them often, but it's good to be here with them," said 1st Lieutenant Michael Anderson, Mississippi National Guard.
"Well today was his birthday and he had no clue I was coming home. He thought I was coming home October 1 and we surprised him, didn't we?," added SSG Shane Barrentine, Mississippi National Guard.
The 230th was responsible for military pay operations while serving in the Balkans.
