JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The 33rd Annual Farish Street Heritage Festival was rocking in downtown Jackson Saturday night.

Folks started arriving early to hear one of the five musical acts playing.

A large crowd from the Jackson State game was expected to draw more people to the event. A number of food and clothing vendors are set up, as hundreds walk through. Organizers say the festival helps promote tourism and the local economy.

"When people are out here they want to eat and they want to drink and they want to buy things for their lady or their man, so it's going to stimulate the economy immensely," said Lee King, Executive Producer of the Farish Street Heritage Festival.

The event is designed to promote African American culture, history, and the arts.

Festivities are expected to wrap up about 1.a.m.
