PARCHMAN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Visitation at the Mississippi State Penitentiary was closed to the public Sunday because state law enforcement continued to look for Michael Dowda, said to be armed and dangerous.
He was discovered missing while on work detail at the state prison in Parchman about 3 p.m. Saturday.
Dowda was last seen wearing an MDOC shirt with green and white striped pants. He may be driving a stolen, white 2005 Silverado truck with a silver tool box on it, which was taken from the prison grounds. The truck has Yalobusha County plates and a disability tag number, S0922.
According to a press release sent from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Dowda allegedly broke into a safe inside the home of an MDOC employee, which is located on prison grounds, and sole two handguns.
The 48-year old white male has brown eyes, brown hair and weighs 195 pounds. He is serving a life sentence for murder in Harrison County.
