Jackson police looking for 2 rape suspects

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

JPD officers arrived to the 700 block of Woody Drive shortly after 7:20 Tuesday morning. The crime scene unit was called to investigate a home invasion and the rape of an 18 year-old woman. Officer

Colendula Green said preliminary information is a bit sketchy.

When WLBT asked if the rapist was a stranger or someone the victim knew Officer Green said  "Right now we're still collecting information."

Police said the burglars got away with a number of items from inside the house. Once they fled it's not certain whether or not they got away by foot or in a vehicle.

Officer Green said the victim was home with another person when the crime occurred.

Jackson resident Thomasine Washington lives across the street from the home where the home invasion and rape occurred. Washington said her neighbor asked her to check on her house when she's not home.

"She asked me to watch out while she's at work because I'm home in the daytime," said Washington.

Washington said she typically sits out on her front porch, but for whatever reason she didn't do that on Tuesday morning.

Washington told us it's not the first time police have been called out to her neighbor's house.

"We need to just beef up the officers in this area real bad because there have been too many home invasions around this area," Washington told WLBT News.

Officer Green said two black men are the suspects in Tuesday morning's home invasion and rape. At this point, police haven't released any additional descriptions.
