JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Jackson city leaders are fighting the battle of the bulge. The Biggest Loser RunWalk will make its debut in the Capital City in November.
Mayor Harvey Johnson says Jackson is teaming up with NBC Universal Television Consumer Products Group and Shine America to help citizens become healthy to live longer and to help children learn better.
Jackie and Dan Evans the mother and son from season five of The Biggest Loser, helped announce the launch of the RunWalk. Together they have lost 225 pounds, most of it after they were kicked off the show.
"The way I lost the extra pounds at home was by taking what I learned at the ranch and so I like to tell people you can do it at home. You don't have to get on the show, because the odds of that are pretty slim, it's a lot of people trying out," Jackie Evans said.
"The greatest thing was having a partner, having my mom on the show was having that person at home waiting for me, saying Dan I've already got the kitchen set up, don't worry, I'll show you my workout routine, we've already got a gym membership, just come with me," Dan Evans said.
Mayor Johnson says Mississippi was chosen to encourage people in the state labeled the most obese in the nation, to get fit. The run walk will be held Nov. 3.
On Nov. 2, those who sign up can get motivation and inspiration at the Health and Wellness Meet and Greet.
