BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Cortrell Rose is scheduled to have his initial appearance on murder charges Thursday morning at 9 a.m.

Rose, 30, is charged with capital murder in the death of 60-year-old Lenora Patsy Edhegard.

Rankin County District Attorney Michael Guest says, "He committed this murder while in the commission of burglary.  We believe the evidence will show he broke into the residence and killed the victim."

Rose was captured in the Walmart on Highway 18 in Jackson by multiple agencies Tuesday, just hours after Edhegard was reported missing.

Rose and Edhegard lived right next door to each other on Cumberland Circle in Brandon.

Authorities believe Rose broke into Edhegard's home and killed her by strangulation.

"He's also being charged with kidnapping.  We believe the evidence will show he physically restrained her by tying her legs and feet together," says Guest.

Rose later told investigators he had dumped her body in Madison County just north of Countyline Road near Tougaloo College, where they discovered her after his arrest.

Rankin and Madison County District Attorney Michael Guest says he will talk with Edhegard's family to discuss whether they will pursue the death penalty in this case.

Edhegard's friends who gathered at her home Wednesday say she was a mother of two sons and a grandmother.

Guest says Rose has an extensive criminal history, which includes convictions of gratification of lust, and burglary.

Rankin county officials are also investigating a previous burglary at Edhegard's home, which Rose may have also been responsible for.
