Brandon man gets life sentence

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Brandon man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his girlfriend.

Robert McGuire, 47, was convicted of shooting to death 61-year-old Linda Tate.

He was sentenced Wednesday evening by Circuit Court Judge John Emfinger in Rankin County.

The deadly violence occurred Saturday, December 3 at the couple's home at 2017 Red Oak Drive in Brandon.

Investigators say they received word of the shooting after McGuire walked to a neighbor's house.

McGuire told the neighbor he shot Tate and the neighbor called 9-1-1.

Tate was shot once in the head with a small caliber pistol.
