JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Season 11 American Idol finalist and Brandon native Skylar Laine is helping launch a new nationwide internet service.
WLBT caught up with Laine Thursday morning at the Cowboy Maloney's store off of Interstate 55 in Jackson. The songstress is working with Cowboy Maloney's and dishNET to sign people up for the new dishNET satellite based broadband internet service. The new high-speed internet option is targeted for consumers in rural areas who don't have access to high-speed internet.
"I don't have good cell phone service at my house and a lot of times we don't have great internet service, so it's going to help people like that and I think it'll be great for a lot of people around here," said 18 year-old Laine.
"We were so lucky back 18 years ago, we launched digital satellite TV and a few years later we launched Sirius satellite radio now we're launching DISHnet," said Johnny Maloney, from Cowboy Maloney's Electric City.
The new service officially rolls out on Oct. 1, but you can start signing up Thursday.
Laine will be signing autographs from the Cowboy Maloney's off of I-55 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
