CANTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Madison County Sheriff's Department and the Mississippi Marrow Donor Program are sponsoring a bone marrow drive near Canton Friday.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the National Guard Armory across from the sheriff's department.  The bone marrow is being sought for Andy Belvedresi, the son of the former undersheriff.

There are nearly 9 million donors on the registry, but they have not been able to find a match for Belvedresi.  Law Enforcement from around the metro are participating, in hopes of finding a one.

Rankin county Sheriff Bryan Bailey and District Attorney Michael Guest were among those signing up to the donor list.

At the same time, they're joining the National Bone Marrow Registry, where they can be matched with other donors, should they need a transplant in the future.

For more information on becoming a bone marrow donor call: 1-800-862-3627 or go to www.bethematch.org
