RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Weekends in the Fall are a great time to take a nature walk. The National Park Foundation held one Saturday along the Natchez Trace.
"Trailfest on the Trace" is a free event. This year it included displays, music, and fun, but the big draw was the scavenger hunt along the multi-use trail. Children got to explore the trail through the eyes of a traveler from the 1800's.
"We have what we call a boatman's activity trail, a historic trail. Boatmen would have used the Natchez Trace to travel, kids can do a short version, 1/4 mile on multi-use trail out here at Ridgeland," says Park Ranger Terry Wildy.
Trailfest on the Trace is sponsored by the Natchez Trace Parkway, the National Park Foundation, and "Bike Walk Mississippi". @
